From the outset, the purpose of Remote Sensing was to obtain information about the targets of the Earth''s surface. Its evolution allowed the development of sensors capable of collecting information in the thermal infrared channel, allowing to know the temperature of the terrestrial surface. In this article, we intend to evaluate the formation of the Superficial Heat Island in the city of Cuiabá, MT, Brazil, as well as to identify the relationship between land use / occupation and surface temperatures. The vector database was acquired through the IBGE website and the Municipality of Cuiabá MT. We used the Google Earth application and the ArcGIS version 10 SIG, where all the 2014 cloudless thermal images (band 10) generated by the OLI / TIRS sensor on the Landsat 8 satellite were processed. At the end, A Surface Temperature Map was generated for each of the five episodes. It was evidenced that, despite the naturally favorable conditions to the high temperatures in the city of Cuiabá / MT, there is also an increase caused by the form of use and occupation of the space, responsible for the elevation of 10 to 15ºC, provoking the appearance of Superficial Heat Island Strong magnitude, as indicated by the Surface Temperature Maps of the 5 episodes analyzed.
